Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe in fragments, was reassembled and restored.

It depicts the arrival of the wedding procession at the newlyweds’ new home, the groom’s paternal house. The preceding groom holds his wife from the hand. Behind them are two women, the first one carrying white ribbons and the second one a torch. The latter one is most likely the bride’s mother who is carrying the fire of her house’s hearth to ensure safe passage for her daughter to her new home. In front of the groom a young man welcomes the couple also holding a torch. He is probably a close friend of the groom who will stand guard outside the wedding chamber during the first night.
