Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe.

It depicts a loutrophoria procession. A boy wrapped in his himation, leads the procession playing the double-flute. The flute’s melody creates a celebratory atmosphere in the ceremonial transportation of the water and accompanies the hymenaios that the rest of the participants sing. A small part of the loutrophoros containing water for the nuptial bath can be seen behind the flute player. It was usually carried by a young girl, selected by the bride’s family.
