Musical promenade at the Acropolis Museum


On Wednesday, 31 October, 2018, the Acropolis Museum will host the accomplished and exuberant Athens String Quartet of the Athens State Orchestra, for a selection of chamber music in the Parthenon Gallery. The Acropolis Museum is the first stop in the Athens State Orchestra’s museums and chamber music tour, “Musical Promenades at the Museums”.

On the day of the event, beginning at 5:30 pm, visitors will be able to stroll through the Parthenon Gallery, accompanied if they wish by one of the Museum’s archaeologist-hosts, then enjoy the concert at 6:00 pm.

The Athens String Quartet will join forces with the distinguished clarinetist Spyros Mourikis to perform works by classical music's "Holy Trinity": Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN (1770-1827) - String Quartet No. 11 in F minor, Op. 95, 'Serioso'
JOHANNES BRAHMS (1833-1897) - Clarinet Quintet in B minor, Op. 115

  • Athens String Quartet: Apollo Grammatikopoulos (violin), Panayiotis Tziotis (violin), Paris Anastasiadis (viola), Isidoros Sideris (cello)
  • Accompanied by Spyros Mourikis (clarinet)

Useful information

  • For access to this Parthenon Gallery concert, free-admission tickets will be available at the Museum’s Ticket Desk, after 5:15 pm.
  • Visitors with free-admission tickets will be able to stroll through the Parthenon Gallery from 5:30 pm until Museum’s closing at 8 pm.
  • The Museum’s winter hours of operation* begin on Thursday, 1 November, 2018.

*Winter season opening hours (1 November- 31 March): Monday-Thursday 9:00 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m., Saturday-Sunday 9:00 a.m.-8 p.m.
