Doric peripteral temple built in limestone. Only a few fragments of its architectural members and big pedimental sculptures survive today. The temple was built in 570 BC and was a forerunner of the Parthenon. It is considered to have been dedicated to Athena Parthenos as the Parthenon was. Its name Hekatompedon, that is a building 100 feet long, is known from an inscription that refers to the spatial organisation of the Acropolis sanctuary.
