Loutrophoros-amphora decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe, was reassembled and restored.

On the vase’s neck, two fragmentary figures are standing facing each other. On the body of the vase various scenes of the wedding ceremony are depicted. The newlyweds are facing each other for the first time as the nympheutria has just pulled the wedding veil covering the bride and revealed her face. Behind her the bride’s mother stands holding a torch lit from her family home’s hearth, whose fire will protect her daughter on her way to the new house. The groom, in the typical wedding gesture, holds the shy bride by the wrist to lead her to his paternal home. Behind him, his mother welcomes the couple holding torches, these ones lit from her own hearth. Between the newlyweds a hanged wreath is depicted as a symbol of prosperity and fertility.
