Dedication of a Kore formed by four parts: the Kore’s upper part with the head; the feet with the plinth; the anta capital; and the dedication’s base in the form of a small polygonal column that retains the protrusion for its attachment with the anta capital.

The Kore’s exact findspot and time of discovery on the Acropolis is unknown. The anta capital was located in a pile of rubble behind the Old Acropolis Museum, broken in two parts that were pieced together. The column was also discovered in fragments, one of which was found during the years 1886-1887 in the north walls of the Acropolis and a second one in the Theatre of Dionysos. No further information is available for the rest of the fragments.

The Kore is missing her face, arms and legs from the middle of her thighs up to her ankles. She is clad in a chiton with sleeves and over this an obliquely worn himation that passes under her left arm and fastens with buttons over the right one. The clothes would have been richly decorated as the few preserved colour traces prove. With her left hand the Kore would have pulled her garment aside to facilitate her step, while in her right hand, made from a separate block of marble, she would have held an offering to the goddess. Her hair falls well down her back in waves and she wears circular earrings on her ears.

The statue’s square plinth is fitted into a carving on the upper surface of the anta capital, where the lead used to secure the two parts is still visible at the plinth’s centre.

On the front side of the column, a vertically inscribed epigram reads: ΠΑΛ(Λ)ΑΔΙ ΑΘΑΝΑΙΑΙ ΛΥΣΟΝ ΑΝΕΘΕΚΕΝ ΑΠΑΡΧΕΝ HΟΝ ΑΥΤΟ ΚΤ[ΕΑ]ΝΟΝ, ΤΕΙ ΔΕ ΘΕΟΙ ΧΑΡΙΕΝ ΘΕΒΑΔΕΣ ΕΠ[ΟΙΕΣΕΝ HO Κ]Υ[Ρ]ΝΟ ΠΑΙΣ ΤΟΔ ΑΓΑΛΜΑ, meaning “Lyson dedicated the statue as an aparche to Athena Pallas to please the goddess. The statue was made by Thebades, the son of Kyrnos”. The incised letters still retain red colour, which was used to highlight them.
