Hydria decorated in the black-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 at the Sanctuary of the Nymphe and was reassembled and restored.

On the shoulder of the vase a lion is presented about to pounce on a man. On the vase’s body five women are depicted at a public fountain. One of them fills her hydria with water, a second one waits patiently for her turn, while the rest of them walk away holding their filled hydrias on their heads. The lower part of the vase is decorated with a horizontal band and rays all painted black. Finally the handles and the base of the vase are accentuated with black colour.

Depictions of women in fountains are very popular on attic vases of the last decades of the 6th cent. BC. Most likely they were influenced by the renowned public fountain, such as the Enneakrounos, that was a place of social gatherings of the time.
