Dog’s head with a broken snout. The eyes are slanting and heavily contoured. A deep ridge between them creates the impression that the animal is focused on its target.

The body fragment Ακρ. 550 has also been attributed to this dog whereas the similarities it presents with the hunting dog Ακρ. 143 lead to the hypothesis that the two animals framed the entrance of the Sanctuary of Artemis Brauronia on the Acropolis.

It is the work of art of a great Athenian artist, perhaps the same one who created the “Rampin rider” (Ακρ. 590), the “Peplos Kore” (Ακρ. 679) and other sculptures of the Acropolis.
