Head of a Kore statuette found on the Acropolis. It preserves small part of the figure’s neck. The almond-shaped eyes protrude from their sockets being framed by dark-coloured arched brows. The lips corners are slightly upturned forming the restrained smile known as the “Archaic smile”.

The hair is kept in place with a stephane which bears painted decoration and retains traces of green pigment. The hairdo is typical of the Archaic korai: the wavy hair falls over the Kore’s back whereas at the front long curling locks frame the neck leaving the ears which are adorned with round earrings uncovered. The red colour seen today may have been the undercoat over which the hair final hue was applied.
