GROUP VISITS

1. Introduction

The purpose of this section is to provide useful information for organizing a group visit to the Acropolis Museum.

A group visit is defined as a visit consisting of 16 to 40 people.

Group visits do not refer to school visit planning. You will find information about school visits in the section Students and teachers.

2. Group visits

For a group visit of 16 to 40 people, making a reservation is mandatory.

Groups without a reservation may not enter the Museum due to high traffic on peak days and hours.

Even if a reservation has been made, there is a possibility of waiting time for the group when entering the Museum, due to high traffic at peak hours.

The Visitors’ Reception and Customer Service Department of the Museum is responsible for undertaking the processing of group visit requests it receives, either electronically or by telephone, in order of priority.

For questions regarding group bookings, the organizer can contact the Museum by email at [email protected] clearly stating his contact details (name, address, phone, email) or by phone at +30 210 900 09 03, Monday–Friday, 09:00-17:00, except on public holidays.

Requests made outside the above hours and on non-working days will be examined on the next working day.

Upon receipt of a reservation request, the staff of Visitors’ Reception and Customer Service Department processes the request and informs the requester/organizer about the current availability.

If the request can be satisfied, the Visitors’ Reception and Customer Service Department sends electronically the confirmation code of the visit with the relevant instructions.

3. Change of visit date or time

To change the date or time of the planned visit, it is mandatory to contact the Visitors’ Reception and Customer Service Department, either electronically at [email protected] or by telephone at +30 210 900 09 03. Changes are possible provided there is availability.

4. Cancellation of group visits and refunds

In case of cancellation of the group's visit, timely notification to the Museum is required by sending an email to [email protected] or by telephone at +30 210 900 09 03 and +30 210 900 09 00 ext. 100.

According to paragraph l) of article 3l of Law 2251/1994 (A΄ 191) there is no right of withdrawal or possibility of refund of the entrance fees related to a specific date. The Museum does not replace tickets that have been lost, stolen or damaged or that the visitor has, for any reason, ceased to have in his/her possession.

In the case of remittance deposits for multiple group visits, the balance resulting from the transactions will remain available in the customer's account for future use.

For the remainder amount of the completed transactions, the person in charge must send an email to [email protected].

The escort/guide of the group is required to know and communicate during the transaction at the Group Ticket Office the method of payment, while ensuring to mention the reservation code at the same time. For authentication purposes, the name and signature of the attendant may be requested from the Museum cashiers.

5. Group ticket price – Reduced and free entry

The cost of the group ticket is calculated according to the Museum's current pricing policy. More information is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

For those entitled to free or reduced admission, the group's escort/guide must show the necessary supporting documents to the cashier on the day of the visit and before the tickets are issued. Information on the beneficiaries of free or reduced entry is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

The group ticket can only be used on the indicated day and time of the visit and grants the group only one entrance to the Museum main exhibition and one entrance to the Excavation Museum.

Information about temporary exhibition tickets is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

8. Arrival at the Museum

Information about the methods of arrival and departure from the Museum is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

Groups enter the Museum exclusively through the fast lane, provided they have made a reservation.

Groups can enter the Museum after the reservation code is confirmed and the date and time of visit are verified by the Museum staff.

In case of late arrival see section 13. Delay on arrival.

9. Access to individuals or groups with disabilities

Entry to the Museum for persons with Disabilities is free. A special free admission ticket must be issued from Ticket Desk number 6.

The Museum has inclined corridors (entrance ramps) for the circulation of wheelchairs, use of elevators inside the Museum, the operation of personal hygiene areas on all floors, the provision of priority entry from the special visitor flow corridor and the placement of special ticket validation machines.

More information about accessibility of the Museum is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

10. Cloakrooms and restrooms

The Museum has a cloakroom especially for groups on the ground floor, where visitors are required to leave their backpacks and any bulky items.

In the case of transporting liquid or fragile objects to the Museum, it is mandatory to inform the cloakroom staff while checking the bags.

The Museum has restrooms on all floors.

11. Scheduling visit time

The responsible guide/escort of the group must estimate the time needed for the group’s arrival at the Museum, as both visitors and their belongings must go through the X-Ray control system.

Luggage and large bulky items are required to remain in the cloakroom, so visitors are advised to avoid carrying cabin bags or large luggage with them.

12. Visit to the Excavation Museum

Given that the visit to the Excavation Museum is included in the group ticket visit, the escort/guide of the group should be mindful for the careful management of the group’s time spent inside the Museum.

Group access to the excavation is achieved by showing the group ticket at the entrance of the excavation.

The escort/guide of the group must facilitate the members of the group to reach the excavation area with the corresponding ticket, and then leave if they wish.

If the guide/escort departs prematurely with the group ticket, the Museum bears no responsibility for denying the group members entry to the excavation or to areas where proof of this is required.

The opening hours of the Excavation Museum differ from those of the Museum. The escort/guide of the group must inform and facilitate their members in this regard. Information about the Excavation Museum is provided in the section Plan Your Visit.

13. Delay on arrival

In case of a delay in arrival of the group by more than half an hour from the scheduled time, the Museum must be informed via email at [email protected] or by telephone at +30 210 900 09 03 / +30 210 900 09 00 ext. 100, with reference to the group booking code.

Upon the group’s late arrival at the Museum, the responsible guide/escort consults with the coordinator of the Visitors’ Reception and Customer Service Department to approve the new exact entry time.

The group must remain outside the Museum until it receives approval to enter.

14. Obligations of the responsible Escort/Group Guide

The escort/guide of the group must:

  • Facilitate the entry of group members upon entering all exhibition spaces until the completion of the visit.
  • Show the group ticket whenever requested by the Museum staff.
  • Know and inform group members about the remaining time available for their stay in the Museum premises.
  • Take care of the issuance of the tickets by presenting the booking code and the corresponding proofs in case of free or reduced entry beneficiaries to the Ticket Desk marked "GROUP TICKETS".
  • Confirm the final amount payable with the ticketing officer.

Payment of the tickets can be made at the Ticket Desk (with cash or card) up to ten (10) minutes before the scheduled time of the group's visit.

15. Guided tours and guides

The Museum does not offer tour guides for its visitors. Groups wishing to receive the services of a tour guide can contact directly the Association of Licensed Tour Guides at [email protected] or +30 210 322 00 90.

Groups accompanied by a tour guide must be aware that the Museum requires all tour guides who offer their services in its premises to be licensed by the Ministry of Tourism in accordance with current legislation and to demonstrate their license in every control carried out by the Museum staff.

By showing their professional license, tour guides are entitled to a free entry ticket.

In order to grant permission to an educator or an archaeologist to do a guided tour of the Museum to group members, a request must be sent to [email protected].

For the best possible experience of the tour - due to the large number of visitors - the Museum recommends the use of headsets during group visits. To avoid overcrowding inside the reception and visitor service areas, it is suggested that the distribution of the headsets to group members takes place outside the Museum.

Group tours are carried out on a private initiative by certified tour guides. The Museum bears no responsibility for the quality of the services offered by third parties.

16. Emergency evacuation of the Museum

In the event of an emergency evacuation of the Museum and for the safe exit of visitors from its premises, visitors must follow the instructions of the staff and comply with them without objections and/or delays.
