Inscribed stele restored from many fragments pieced together and reconstructed. Preserved are about 45 lines of the inscription cut into stone stoichedon and written in the Attic alphabet. They contained the accounts of five building supervisors of the Parthenon construction.

The inscription refers to the eleventh year of the work. First, it records the previous year’s remaining available sum and then the amount that the supervisors received from the treasurers of the goddess Athena. The record of the revenues is followed by the expenses, divided into construction material expenses, such as wood, and the payment of the workers who quarried and transferred marble from Mt Penteli. The sale of the redundant material initially bought for the construction of Athena’s statue is also mentioned as well as the quarrying of marble that was to be used for the construction of the Parthenon’s pediments.

The body of supervisors was elected by lot, had its own secretary and its purpose was to inspect the Parthenon’s construction. The supervisors were charged with the superintendence of the overall work and the recording of all relevant accounts which were inscribed on stone and erected for public display on the Acropolis. The first Parthenon accounts date to 447/6 BC and the last ones in 433/2 BC.
