It was the commonest cooking ware throughout antiquity. Found in 1955 on the Acropolis south slope, this pot is mended from many fragments and restored. It is round-bottomed so it could be placed over a brazier, its body is bulbous and the rim outturned. The vessel’s surface bears fire traces due to its direct contact with flames. Narrow and shallow grooves run around the body, most probably securing the vessel’s safer handling when it was washed or moved.
