Amphora fragments, decorated in the black-figure technique. They were found in 1888 during the excavations conducted on the Acropolis, in front of the Parthenon's southwest corner, and some of them were reassembled.
The decoration is organized in bands arranged on the amphora body. The neck is adorned with a palmette chain and lotus flowers. The shoulder is decorated with a battle scene and the amphora belly with the main scene depicting the Gigantomachy. On the rim of the vessel part of an inscription can be seen [- - - ΑΝΕΘ]ΕΚΕΝ, meaning “dedicated” but unfortunately the dedicator’s name isn’t preserved. The letters ΕΟΗΕ ΝΟΕΝΟΕ on the amphora belly probably belong to a pseudo-inscription.
