Dimitrios Pantermalis (1940-2022) was Emeritus Professor of Classical Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He gave lectures, seminars and courses at many universities and museums worldwide. From 1973, he headed the University’s archaeological excavations at the ancient site of Dion in the foothills of Mount Olympus, where he implemented pioneering programs turning the excavation into an archaeological and natural park. From September 1996 to March 2000 he was a member of the Greek Parliament as a Member of State. His life project was the creation of the Acropolis Museum ; he served as President of the Board of Directors of the Organization for the Construction of the New Acropolis Museum from 2000 until 2019 and as President of the Board of Directors of the Acropolis Museum from 2009 until 2022. He produced more than 60 publications in Classical Archeology and was a regular member of the German Archaeological Institute in Berlin and the Archaeological Society in Athens.
