Fragmentarily preserved plaque decorated in the black-figure technique that depicts Athena. It was unearthed in 1888 during the Acropolis excavation campaigns.

The goddess turns to the viewer’s left and wears chiton and over it aegis with snakes along its hem. At the front of her Attic-type helmet rises a snake. She has her spear in her left hand and a shield in her right. The shield emblem possibly is adorned with a lion head, a thunderbolt or floral pattern. On the top of the shield sits an owl, Athena’s sacred bird. A narrow black band frames the scene. The goddess’ female flesh is rendered in added white whereas other details are painted red. The upper right part of the plaque is pierced with a suspension hole.
