Parts from a krater decorated in the red-figure technique. They were found in 1886 east of the Parthenon in fragments, were pieced together and partially restored.
The interior of the vase is covered with shiny black glaze. The exterior, on one side is decorated with a scene of a seated statue of Athena Polias and a young worshiper and on the other side a sacrificial scene in honour of Athena in front of her altar. Alongside the altar’s base is a pseudo-inscription.
The inscription ΜΥΣΩΝ ΕΓΡΑΦΣEΝ ΚΑΠΟΙΕΣΕΝ (Myson made and painted this) on the krater’s neck informs us that the vase-painter and the potter are the same person. It has also been suggested that Myson can be identified with the young worshiper in front of the goddess’ statue.
