Bibliography

Relief plaque that represents armed Athena jumping onto a chariot. It was found during one of the Acropolis excavation expeditions in fragments and then mended and restored in plaster.

Athena turns to the viewer’s left as she has already mounted with her right leg the chariot box. She is dressed in a long chiton, over which she has her himation obliquely on, aegis and Attic-type helmet. On the plaque’s upper left corner, an owl is depicted. Traces of white slip, which served as an undercoat for the final colours, are retained all over the surface. In the background, remnants of light blue colour can be seen while two suspension holes are opened on the plaque’s top.
