The floor of the plate depicts the fight between Theseus and Minotaur, with Ariadne witnessing it. Theseus wears a loincloth and a wreath on his head. He plunges his sword at the beast’s neck where blood is gushing. The Minotaur who is holding rocks in his fists, tries to get away while Ariadne gestures wildly to indicate her disarray.

The rim of the vase is decorated by a chain of lotus buds while two holes were probably used for its suspension. The vessel’s foot and the rim’s outer surface are decorated with alternating black and red concentric circles.
