Amphora mended from many fragments and restored. The foot is missing. It was found in 1937 on the north slope of the Acropolis.

The body is globular, the neck cylindrical with wide and horizontal rim. Vertical handles adjust to the shoulder and half-way up to the neck. The vessel is covered with light-coloured slip against which the decorative details (wavy line, double spirals with crosses and horizontal bands) are rendered in brown-red paint.

On the pot’s shoulder are carelessly inscribed the names ΑΓΑΣΙΚΛΗΣ and ΕΥΡΥΚΛΗΣ or ΕΥΡΥΚΑΣ whereas the graffito on the belly band can be restored in two ways, either as Κ[…………]ΚΛΕΣ ΔΟΚΕΝ ΛΑΦΙΛΙΔΕΙ ΚΑΒ[Β]ΑΡΥΝΟΣ, which reads “Laphilides believes that Agasikles, Euryklesς, Κ…… and ……kles are absolutely boring” or as Κ[ΑΤΑΠΥΓΟΝ ΑΓΑΣΙ]ΚΛΕΣ ΔΟΚΕΝ ΛΑΦΙΛΙΔΕΙ (Κ)Α[Ι] ΒΑΡΥΝΟΣ, which reads “Laphilides believes that Agasikles is lecherous and boring”.

Such graffiti on pottery form a distinct category of unofficial short inscriptions that most often include the name of the object’s owner. There are also graffiti which refer to everyday life, economic activities, emotions and love life, as well as character attributes that concern friends, lovers, competitors or enemies.
