Bibliography

It was found in 1959 on the south slope of the Acropolis. The head tilts slightly to the left and the neck rises from a base in the form of stylised himation folds. The hair held in a sakkos is adorned with an ivy wreath. Traces of white slip are retained all over the surface whereas remnants of red colour are seen on the hair. It comes probably from an incense burner (thymiaterion) and may represent a Maenad or the goddess Aphrodite.
