Loutrophoros-amphora decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe, was pieced together and restored.

On each side of the vase’s neck a woman, clad in a chiton and himation, is depicted. On the body of the vase, on one side, a woman is portrayed holding a drum and torches that were lit either from the bride’s or from the groom’s ancestral home. In front of her sprouts a spiraling stalk. Two seated Sphinxes frame the scene with both of them raising their front paws. The vessel’s other side is decorated with a dotted wreath which symbolises fertility and prosperity that will accompany the couple on their married life.
