Part of a loutrophoros decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 at the Sanctuary of the Nymphe and was pieced together.

It depicts a groom getting ready before the wedding, a topic that does not occur as often as other wedding scenes. In a room decorated with cloth and ribbons on the walls, the bridegroom stands supporting himself on a staff. He is clad in a chiton and a richly decorated himation and has a band on his hair. A winged figure holding an alabastron flies towards the groom to sprinkle him with perfume and a second one approaches him from behind holding more ribbons for him. These winged figures symbolise the man’s transition from single to married life.
