Part of a loutrophoros-hydria decorated in the red-figure technique. It was found in fragments in 1957 in the Sanctuary of the Nymphe and was pieced together and restored.

Floral and geometric ornaments decorate the rim whereas a loutrophoria procession is depicted on the neck. A youth precedes playing the double-flute followed by a woman. She was chosen by the bride’s family to carry the decorated loutrophoros containing water for the nuptial bath. The procession is heading towards two women one of which, perhaps the bride herself, holds a red fruit in her hand.

The vase’s body is decorated with the wedding of Dionysos and Ariadne as is evident from the presence of an elderly Satyr observing the scene. The newlyweds are framed most likely by their mothers. The mother of the bride holds a torch lit from their family hearth which will protect her daughter during her transition to her new house. The mother of the groom patiently waits to welcome the bride holding a torch lit from her own hearth.
