The Acropolis Museum, the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments (ESMA), the Acropolis Restoration Service (YSMA) and the Friends of Acropolis Society (EFA) present an event entitled "Charalambos Bouras and the Acropolis". The event is dedicated to the memory of a university professor, a founding member of the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments, whose name is inextricably linked with the restoration of the Acropolis monuments. The event will take place on Friday, November 23, 2018, at 6 pm, in the auditorium of the Acropolis Museum.
Charalambos Bouras was dedicated to the task of restoring the Acropolis monuments for more than 40 years, initially as a founding member and, since 1985, as Chairman of the Acropolis Committee. During this time, he worked tirelessly and methodically on the preservation and protection of the Rock’s monuments, the implementation of international restoration checks, the promotion of scientific research and the creation of an archive of restorations. Today, two years after his death, the purity of his thought and the clarity of his spoken and published communications remain as relevant as ever.
The Chairman of the Acropolis Museum’s Board of Directors, Prof. D. Pandermalis, will speak about Charalambos Bouras’ contributions to the restoration of the Acropolis monuments, followed by the President of ESMA, Prof. M. Korres; the Vice President of ESMA, Prof. F. Mallouchou-Tufano; the Director of YSMA, Ms. V. Eleftheriou; and the EFA Secretary General, Ms. Anna Malikourtis.
During the event, excerpts will be screened from the film Charalambos Bouras: The Man, the Scientist, the Teacher, directed by B. Tsokas, produced by DIAZOMA. Also to be presented are YSMA’s recent editions Special Issues Concerning Research and Implementation in the Acropolis Restoration Works, 2010 - 2015, Proceedings and Charalambos Bouras and the Restoration of the Acropolis Monuments, which are dedicated to Bouras’ memory.
