Age-old deity, whose name derives from that of her consort Zeus (Dias in Greek). The main site of her worship was Dodona in Epirus, where alongside Zeus they were a divine couple. Homer mentioned her as the mother of Aphrodite whereas other ancient writers consider her the mother of Niobe and Pelops from Tantalus. Still others identify her as a Titan, the daughter of Ouranos (Sky) and Gaia (Earth); as an Oceanis, the daughter of Oceanos (Ocean) and Tethys and others as a Nereid the daughter of Nereus and Doris.
